Meet the Founder
founded Virginia Artistic Skating Company in 2025 with the mission of inspiring hope, empowering health, and encouraging harmony through artistic and expressive figure skating.

Anna Johnson fell in love with figure skating from the first moment she stepped on the ice at the age of 9. After beginning group lessons at her local rink in Lynchburg, VA, she continued her training in Charlottesville, Richmond, and Newport News, VA before moving to Delaware to train at the University of Delaware's National Training Center. After returning home to Virginia, Anna continued her training in Northern Virginia and the DC metro area, while gaining professional experience skating with the American Ice Theatre.
Throughout her skating career, Anna has had the opportunity to study numerous different skating disciplines, including free skating, ice dance (solo and partnered), free dance, synchronized skating, theatre on ice, and ensemble skating, and has had the privilege of studying under renowned coaches including Scott Gregory (2x Olympian, 7x World Team member, Skate America and Skate Canada Dance Champion), Alexandr Kirsanov (Russian National Ice Dance Champion), Karen Ludington (National and International choreographer), Luis Lovett (PSA Master-rated coach and former International Disney on Ice principal skater), Kate McSwain (American Ice Theatre), Garrett Kling (American Ice Theatre), and Lorna Brown (Ice Theatre of New York).
Anna is a 4x US Figure Skating Gold Medalist in Skating Skills (formerly Moves in the Field), Singles (formerly Free Skating), Solo Pattern Dance, and Solo Free Dance, a 2x Inclusive Skating World Champion, an American Ice Theatre-Certified Professional Choreographer, and one of seven 2020 US Figure Skating Get Up Ambassadors. Additionally, Anna holds her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, her Bachelor of Science in Wellness and Alternative Medicine, her Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition, and her Doctorate in Traditional Naturopathic Medicine.
After a lifetime of finding immense joy, healing, and release through skating, while simultaneously battling cystic fibrosis and severe chronic illness, Anna founded Virginia Artistic Skating Company in 2025, with the mission of promoting individual and community well-being through artistic and expressive figure skating. As the first and only nonprofit, professional figure skating company in the state of Virginia and one of only five in the United States, VASC is the foremost trailblazer for artistic skating in Virginia. Anna's passion for sharing hope through skating and movement arts has established VASC as not just a professional performing arts company, but a powerful agent of change throughout Virginia and beyond.
